TOP STORY TODAY
Paramount vs. Netflix
Paramount launched a $77.9 billion hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery at $30 per share Monday. The all-cash offer challenges Warner's $72 billion Netflix agreement reached days earlier (WSJ). CEO David Ellison took the case directly to shareholders.
Warner owns CNN, TBS, and HBO Max. Paramount's offer is backed by the Ellison family, RedBird Capital, and $54 billion in debt commitments from major banks. Sovereign wealth funds provided equity commitments. Shareholders have until January 8 to decide (More).
Warner will advise shareholders within 10 business days while recommending Netflix's deal. Netflix expressed confidence closing. Paramount shares rose 9% Monday, Warner gained 4%, while Netflix dropped 3.4%.
401(k) Millionaires Surge
Fidelity reported 654,000 401(k) millionaires in Q3, the highest on record. Three consecutive years of stock gains drove balances higher. Around 3.2% of Alight accounts exceeded $1 million, double the 2022 figure.
Half of private-sector workers now save in 401(k)s. Workers in their late 30s allocated 88% to equities last year, up from 82% a decade earlier. About 86% of seven-figure account holders are baby boomers or Gen Xers aged 50-plus.
UBS calls them "moderate millionaires" with $1 million to $5 million in assets. The number quadrupled globally since 2000 to 52 million. UBS economists say spending like a stereotypical millionaire requires at least $5 million. 401(k) plans for small businesses.
Google AI Glasses
Google announced AI-powered smart glasses launching in 2026, partnering with Samsung, Warby Parker, and Gentle Monster. Two formats will be available: display-equipped models and audio-focused versions. Project Aura, developed with Xreal, runs Android XR software.
The glasses compete with Meta's Ray-Ban models (test video) in the AR market. Prototypes connect wirelessly to smartphones for processing. Display versions offer real-time translation and augmented-reality overlays for Google Maps and Meet. Project Aura provides a 70-degree field of view.
Google announced improvements for Samsung's $1,800 Galaxy XR headset, including travel mode for vehicles and planes. A PC Connect app launching this week mirrors Windows screens in virtual environments. Why Google Glass failed here.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE
Why Clutter Drains Your Mental Energy
Research shows humans hold approximately seven attention units at once. Physical and mental messes—incomplete tasks, unsorted papers, unspoken conversations, unfinished projects—consume these units constantly. Like waiters who forget orders after bills are paid, your brain needs closure to free capacity.
Author Jack Canfield recommends:
filing systems for notes
"come-up files" for future tasks
aggressive decluttering
Items unworn for 60 days get donated. Relationship incompletions—unsaid thank yous, unresolved conflicts—also occupy mental space.
Clearing these opens bandwidth for creativity and productivity. Even small incompletions, like wall cracks noticed but ignored, drain focus subconsciously.
How to Un-Learn Laziness
You choose your work ethic. Tom Ferry argues laziness is learned, not innate. He shares the parable of two sons with alcoholic fathers—one avoided drinking, the other became an alcoholic. Your upbringing doesn't determine your effort. You can choose today to outwork your competition, adding one extra hour or rep daily, regardless of past conditioning.
