Battleground States Voting
Voters are casting ballots today in key races. In Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger leads Republican Winsome Earle-Sears 55-44% for governor, while the attorney general contest remains tight. New Jersey's gubernatorial race shows Democrat Mikie Sherrill ahead by roughly 5 points.
New York City's mayoral race has Democrat Zohran Mamdani leading with 44.6%, followed by independent Andrew Cuomo at 31.6%. California's Proposition 50, a redistricting measure backed by Governor Gavin Newsom, polls at 57-62% support.
These races could signal trends ahead of next year's midterms, particularly as Republicans and Democrats test messaging in competitive states and Democratic strongholds.
Musk Pay Rejected
Norway's sovereign wealth fund, a major Tesla investor, will vote against Elon Musk's proposed $1 trillion performance-based pay package at Thursday's shareholder meeting. The fund cited concerns about award size, dilution, and key person risk.
The package could give Musk an additional 12% stake if Tesla reaches milestones and grows to $8.5 trillion market value over 10 years—nearly eight times current valuation. Tesla's chair warned Musk might leave without approval (WSJ).
The vote follows legal battles over Musk's previous $56 billion compensation plan, struck down by Delaware court but re-approved by shareholders. Baron Capital supports the new package; other major investors haven't disclosed positions. What if Musk becomes first trillionaire?
Fast Casual Struggles
Chipotle reported declining customer traffic for the three months ended September 30, marking the third consecutive quarter it cut same-store sales forecasts. Consumers aged 25-35, representing roughly 25% of sales, are visiting less frequently amid economic pressures.
Rising student loans, stagnant wages, and health costs are pushing younger diners to cook at home. Over half of Gen Z plan to cut restaurant spending. Chipotle's stock has dropped 47% this year (Are we in a K-shaped economy?).
The chain is responding with college-focused promotions and digital deals through gaming apps. Sit-down restaurants like Chili's are attracting younger customers with value offerings, while fast-casual chains face declining traffic. How are investors thinking of this chain?

Alex Hormozi's Discipline Spectrum
"Discipline is about doing the things you don't like to do for an extended period of time without getting reward," says entrepreneur Alex Hormozi.
"How disciplined you are is how many times you can do a punishing event without receiving a reward in a row."
Discipline isn't pass/fail—it's a sliding scale
You exist somewhere on that spectrum at any given moment
Your position = current streak of unrewarded effort
The takeaway: Progress is measured in consecutive reps, not perfection.
Your Reese's Isn't What You Remember
Childhood formula: six ingredients (sugar, cocoa butter, milk, peanuts, chocolate, salt). Today's wrapper lists 15. The shift: non-GMO sugar became GMO. Whole milk fragmented into skim milk, milk fat, and lactose. New additions include soy lecithin, polyglycerol polyricinoleate, dextrose, citric acid, and TBHQ preservative. Your nostalgic candy bar now requires a chemistry degree to pronounce.
