Comey Case Dismissed
A federal judge dismissed criminal indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James Monday. Judge Cameron Currie ruled prosecutor Lindsey Halligan was unlawfully appointed, voiding actions from her defective appointment.
Halligan, an insurance lawyer with no prosecutorial experience, was appointed interim U.S. attorney at President Trump's direction. She alone presented cases and signed indictments. Other prosecutors had recommended against charging the defendants, both Trump political adversaries.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Justice Department will appeal. Cases were dismissed "without prejudice," though Comey's attorneys argue the statute of limitations expired. Comey faced false statement charges; James faced bank fraud charges. Both pleaded not guilty.
Campbell’s VP Insults Product
Former Campbell Soup employee Robert Garza filed a lawsuit after releasing audio allegedly featuring VP Martin Bally disparaging company products and customers. The recording includes statements about product quality. Bally has been placed on leave pending investigation.
The speaker allegedly called Campbell's products unhealthy and referenced bioengineered meat. Campbell's denied using lab-grown meat, stating chicken comes from USDA-approved suppliers. The company called comments "patently absurd" and inconsistent with corporate values.
Garza claims he was fired in January 2025 after reporting the remarks to supervisors. He began working remotely for Campbell's in September 2024 (More). Florida's Attorney General launched an investigation, as the state bans lab-grown meat.
Holiday Spending Strong
Major retailers including Walmart, Gap, and TJX reported robust financial results (WSJ), indicating consumers continue spending despite economic concerns. Shoppers are gravitating toward retailers they perceive as offering value, suggesting a solid holiday shopping season ahead.
The National Retail Federation projects November-December retail sales will grow 3.7%-4.2% to $1.01-1.02 trillion, comparable to last year's 4.3% growth. Some retailers like Target face challenges, though executives acknowledge their own operational missteps contributed.
Discount retailers are particularly thriving as consumers prioritize value. TJX (owner of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls) and Ross Stores both exceeded expectations, with many retailers launching Black Friday promotions (NYT) earlier to capture budget-conscious shoppers.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE
Surviving the Holidays with Your In-Laws
Family gatherings drain you faster than work stress, but most fight through it instead of managing energy strategically. Instead, do this:
Strategic resets: 5-minute disappearances every 90 minutes prevent emotional depletion
Role clarity: Single defined task (grill duty, tech support) reduces decision fatigue by 40%
Emotional judo: Redirect instead of react, which preserves cortisol levels during tense moments
The Leadership Angle: Performance psychologists note that modeling calm under pressure teaches children emotional regulation, meaning your composure is their blueprint.
Bottom line: Survival mode isn't weakness. Strategic withdrawal during high-stress family events protects mental bandwidth and demonstrates executive function to your kids.
How to Carve a Turkey
Your uncle's been doing it wrong for 30 years. Here's the move: let the turkey rest 20-30 minutes, then start with legs and thighs—not the breast. Slice at the seams and joints (they fall apart). Detach leg from thigh. Then the breast: slice along the center bone until you hit the rib cage and work the meat out. Wings come last. The chef's secret? Flip the bird and find the "oysters"—two tender dark meat medallions hiding on the back.
