Shutdown Vote Today

The House votes Wednesday on a compromise ending the 42-day government shutdown, the longest in US history. The Senate approved the deal Monday night. President Trump said he'll sign it, stating "we're opening up our country" at a Veterans Day event.

The shutdown began October 1. The deal extends funding through January 30, setting up another potential showdown. It divides Democrats who sought extending healthcare subsidies for 24 million Americans past year-end. Senate Republicans promised a separate December vote without guarantees.

The agreement secures SNAP food aid through September 2026 and prohibits employee terminations until January 30. Federal workers who missed paychecks will receive relief within days. Nearly 1,200 flights were canceled Tuesday due to shutdown-related congestion. Flight disruptions likely to continue.

Federal THC Ban

The Senate passed a funding bill Monday re-criminalizing many intoxicating hemp-derived products legalized in 2018. The provision targets Delta-8 and similar products sold in gas stations while preserving non-intoxicating CBD. Only Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz voted against it among Republicans.

Senator Mitch McConnell, who championed hemp legalization in 2018, now says companies exploit loopholes creating intoxicating substances from legal THC amounts. The largely unregulated industry allows THC products on shelves without distinguishing intoxicating versus non-intoxicating hemp products.

The House votes Wednesday. Hemp industry representatives say the measure threatens the $30 billion legal market. Paul argued the bill "overrides state frameworks" and "destroys livelihoods" during difficult agricultural times.

AI Country Tops Charts

"Walk My Walk" by Breaking Rust hit number one on Billboard's digital country sales chart Monday, marking the first AI-generated song to top US country charts. The artist hasn't confirmed using artificial intelligence, but industry observers widely identify Breaking Rust as AI-powered.

Detection software shows 60-90 percent probability the track is AI-generated. Breaking Rust provides no human singer's name, and songwriter credits link to Def Beats AI, a confirmed AI project. The group's social media features clearly AI-created visuals.

AI music expands across genres. R&B artist Xania Monet signed for $3 million in September, becoming the first virtual artist on bestselling charts. Only platform Deezer currently labels AI-generated tracks systematically.

72-Hour Rule: Stop Impulse Spending Forever

Want something? Don't buy it. Write it down instead.

The rule: For any non-essential purchase, wait 72 hours before buying. Add it to your cart or a list, then walk away.

Why it works: Your brain shifts from emotional (I want it now!) to logical (Do I actually need this?). Sleep during the waiting period consolidates your thinking and reveals whether the desire was real or just a marketing-triggered impulse.

The result? Studies show 80-90% of items people wait on never get purchased. Those savings compound fast.

Elite Athletes Save Carbs for Night

Elite athletes do the opposite of conventional wisdom: they save carbs for evening.

Why it works: Your body replenishes glycogen during sleep—your longest recovery window. Carbs eaten 1-2 hours before bed also help you fall asleep faster by decreasing sleep latency.

The kicker? Studies show carb timing doesn't affect fat loss when total daily calories match.
