Hollywood Jobs Collapse

Los Angeles' entertainment industry lost 42,000 jobs since 2022, dropping from 142,000 to 100,000 workers by late 2024 (WSJ). The collapse accelerated after strikes ended in 2023, with major film and TV production declining sharply across the region.

Production of movies and TV shows budgeted at $40 million-plus fell 30% in 2024 versus 2022, then dropped another 13% through mid-2025. Studios cut spending after streaming growth slowed and investors demanded profitability. High costs drove work to Georgia and Eastern Europe.

Workers are leaving LA or retraining for other careers. California doubled its film tax credit; federal incentives are proposed. Meanwhile, Trump announces 100 percent tariff on foreign made films.

BUSINESS

Tesla Sales Record

Tesla delivered 497,099 vehicles in Q3 2025, up 7.4% year-over-year and exceeding Wall Street's 456,000 estimate. The record reversed two quarters of declining sales as U.S. customers rushed to use the $7,500 federal EV tax credit before it expired September 30.

The sales bump isn't expected to continue. CEO Elon Musk is pivoting Tesla toward autonomous vehicles and robotics, with new models lacking steering wheels starting with the Cybercab in 2026. President Trump's budget bill eliminated the EV credit this summer.

Tesla shareholders vote next month on a $1 trillion pay package for Musk tied to reaching an $8.5 trillion market cap. Some investors are against this package.

ENTERTAINMENT

Peanuts Celebrate 75 Years

Peanuts celebrates its 75th anniversary October 2, marking 75 years since Charles Schulz's comic debuted in 1950. Schulz created nearly 18,000 strips before his death in 2000, introducing Charlie Brown, Snoopy and gang to generations worldwide.

Schulz's widow Jeannie, 86, co-owns Peanuts Worldwide managing partnerships from merchandise to Apple TV+ specials. The Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California displays original sketches. Statues of characters stand throughout the city.

The strip has found renewed Gen Z popularity, particularly Snoopy's memetic online presence. Celebrity fans include astronaut Mike Massimino (who took Snoopy to space), TV hosts Andy Cohen and Alec Baldwin, and Billie Jean King.

Gratitude Shrinks Your Fear Center

Writing down three things you're grateful for seems trivial. UCLA brain scans prove otherwise.

The Neural Shift:

  • 3 months of daily gratitude journaling increases gray matter in prefrontal cortex

  • Amygdala reactivity (fear/threat center) decreases after intervention

  • Medial prefrontal cortex activation persists three months after practice ends

The mechanism: Gratitude doesn't just make you feel better—it physically rewires how your brain processes threats, turning down your stress alarm system while strengthening emotional regulation centers.

Inflammation Impact:

  • Reduced amygdala activity correlates with lower TNF-α and IL-6 inflammatory markers

  • Effect size comparable to anti-inflammatory interventions

Forest Bathing Boosts Immune System

Japanese shinrin-yoku research shows forest bathing (time in the woods) significantly reduces cortisol levels while increasing natural killer cell activity by 50 percent. A single day trip elevates NK cells—which kill tumor cells—with effects lasting seven to thirty days afterward. Two to six hours in forests provides optimal immune benefits. Trees release phytoncides that boost anti-cancer proteins.
