Storm of the Century
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica Tuesday as a Category 5 storm with 185 mph winds. Heavy flooding swept southwestern regions, winds tore off roofs, and landslides blocked roads. Nearly 15,000 sheltered as 77% of customers lost power (video).
The storm is the strongest to hit Jamaica since recordkeeping began 174 years ago, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said. Three families were trapped in Black River, unreachable by rescue crews. St. Elizabeth parish was "underwater."
Melissa moved toward Cuba at Category 4 strength, expected to cross the eastern island overnight. Jamaica's service warned storm surge would continue hitting northern Jamaica through the night. See hurricane tracking here.
White-Collar Layoffs
Amazon announced 14,000 corporate job cuts this week, planning to eliminate 10% of white-collar workforce. UPS reduced management by 14,000 positions; Target cut 1,800 corporate roles. Laid-off workers face a stagnant market (WSJ).
Layoffs stem partly from companies embracing AI to handle work done by well-compensated employees. Jobs requiring bachelor's degrees are most exposed to AI. Nearly two million Americans have been jobless 27 weeks or more.
Companies report shortages in trade, healthcare, and construction while pausing hiring for consultants and managers. Only 20% of surveyed Americans feel confident finding good jobs, down from past years. White collar bloodbath?
Ohtani's Historic Night
Shohei Ohtani reached base nine times in Monday's 18-inning World Series Game 3, the longest in history. Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off homer in the 18th, giving the Dodgers victory over Toronto.
Toronto intentionally walked Ohtani four times after he hit two doubles and two homers. The Blue Jays walked him five straight times from the ninth inning. No postseason player had ever reached base nine times.
Ohtani pitches Game 4 on Tuesday. Freeman became the only player with two walk-off World Series homers. The Dodgers lead the series and need two more wins for consecutive championships. Watch Ohtani’s highlight reel.

5 Habits to Fix Your Terrible Posture
Bryan Johnson found a ticking time bomb: internal jugular vein stenosis. Years of slouching compressed the veins draining blood from his brain. Head forward. Shoulders rounded. The pipes crimped shut. Headaches. Brain fog. Risk of stroke.
He didn’t want surgery, just physical therapy for the fix. His protocol:
Invisible string: Imagine it pulled through your spine. Head straight.
Phone up: Never down. Always eye level. Awkward. Necessary.
Move every 5 minutes: Lunges. Stretches. Reset your body.
Shoulder pulls: Elbows back. Pull up and out. Shoulders, not wrists.
Forehead pressure: Light pressure. Head up slightly. No clenching.
"You're going to feel incredibly sore." Do it anyway (but talk to your doctor first).
AI Improves When You Act More Human
Gary Vee says he’ll do a 39-minute prompt. “Start going much deeper and much more nuanced in your “prompts,” he said. “Too many still use ChatGPT like it’s Google search when it has much more power than that and can give you much more in depth answers and more importantly can be a working partner versus a quick tool.” Using it to “think with [him],” Gary says you must be unbelievable detailed, curious and human.
