Musk Attacks Megabill
Elon Musk called President Trump's massive spending bill a "disgusting abomination" Tuesday, stunning GOP leaders who thought they'd addressed his concerns. The world's richest man told House members: "Shame on those who voted for it." His attack came days after leaving his government efficiency role (Trump and Musk’s relationship timeline).
Speaker Mike Johnson said he spent 20 minutes Monday reassuring Musk about the bill's merits in what seemed like a friendly conversation. Johnson called Musk's subsequent broadside "very disappointing" and "terribly wrong," leaving Republican leadership blindsided by the billionaire's rhetorical barrage (see Musk’s X post).
The timing raises whether Musk's intervention will torpedo the legislation among senators and signals his willingness to break with Trump despite spending $250 million on his election. Musk's combative stance tests the limits of his influence within Trump's orbit. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren releases 130-accusation report on Musk’s tenure.
Wells Fargo Cap Lifted
Federal regulators lifted the asset cap restricting Wells Fargo's growth after seven years, ending the most severe punishment from its fake-accounts scandal. The fourth-largest U.S. bank can now gather deposits, increase loans, and expand Wall Street operations after being capped at $2 trillion since 2018. Shares have also gone up.
CEO Charlie Scharf called the milestone pivotal and announced $2,000 bonuses for full-time employees. The bank lost significant market share during restrictions, dropping from over 10% of U.S. deposits to closer to 7%. Other regulatory provisions remain until Wells satisfies additional requirements (scandal overview).
Wells can now refocus on growth strategy rather than regulatory compliance work that consumed leadership attention for years. The bank plans to expand credit cards, wealth management, and investment banking while potentially cutting costs from its 10,000-person risk team, but what to customers think? Redditors explain Wells Fargo hatred.
Knicks Fire Thibodeau
The New York Knicks fired coach Tom Thibodeau Tuesday, three days after their deepest playoff run in 25 years ended with a conference finals loss to Indiana. The decision shocked many since Thibodeau led back-to-back 50-win seasons and just signed a three-year extension last summer.
Team president Leon Rose cited the organization's singular focus on winning a championship as driving the decision to move in another direction. Thibodeau had become the franchise's fourth all-time winningest coach and guided an overhauled roster that upset defending champion Boston in the second round.
The firing follows a pattern of teams changing coaches after deep playoff runs, though Thibodeau's .579 career win percentage ranks highest among coaches without Finals appearances. Star guard Jalen Brunson had defended Thibodeau after the season ended (see how coach wins are counted).
Sleep Better
Fall Asleep Faster
Here’s Gary Brecka’s routine to fall asleep faster: "You won't make it to 10 breaths and you'll fall asleep.” His protocol starts with contrast showers — as hot as you can stand on your neck for 90 seconds, then ice-cold water for 30 seconds. This breaks the catecholamine cycle that keeps your mind racing.
Next comes oil pulling with organic coconut oil, followed by complete light elimination. You'd be shocked how little light it takes to spike cortisol at night. Brecka demands total darkness — towels over alarm clocks, $8 eye masks, rooms at 68-69 degrees.
Then you breathe in through your nose, pause, exhale through pursed lips like a straw. When thoughts intrude, don't fight them — grab each thought, pull it into your lungs, and breathe it out of your body. Here’s the full explanation in 60 seconds.
