Nuclear Testing Order

President Trump ordered the Pentagon to begin nuclear weapons testing "on an equal basis" with Russia and China (WSJ). The directive came before meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea. Testing "will begin immediately."

The U.S. last tested nuclear weapons in 1992. America, Russia, and China observe a moratorium on underground blasts. It remained unclear whether Trump referenced warhead tests or missile delivery systems, which countries test regularly.

Trump told reporters more details would follow. The U.S. has conducted over 1,000 tests; China completed 45. Experts questioned the necessity, noting simulations ensure arsenal reliability. History of nuclear explosive testing here.

Senate Rejects Tariffs

The Senate voted 50-46 Wednesday to repeal President Trump's Canada tariffs. Some Republicans joined Democrats on the symbolic measure, one day after passing a similar Brazil tariff resolution.

Trump hiked Canada tariffs an additional 10 percent this week over an ad featuring former President Reagan. Meanwhile, Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, with both leaders expressing warmer bilateral relations during his Asia trip.

The measures are unlikely to reach the House floor. The Federal Reserve cut rates Wednesday as the shutdown hit day 29. SNAP benefits expire November 1 amid the funding stalemate.

New Dr. Seuss Book

A newly discovered Dr. Seuss manuscript will be published June 2, 2026. "Sing the 50 United States" features the Cat in the Hat teaching state names for America's 250th anniversary. It's the first full manuscript found since 2015.

The manuscript was discovered this year at UC San Diego's Geisel Library, Dr. Seuss Enterprises said. Theodor Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss) left behind a cover sketch and art notes. Tom Brannon created new illustrations matching the style.

Random House will print 500,000 copies initially. "Uncovering a new work from Ted is like finding a time capsule," said Susan Brandt, CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises. See children's books here.

Master Unpredictable Weather with Style

You check the forecast: 38°F at dawn, 65°F by lunch, rain at 4pm. You grab your heaviest coat and immediately regret it.

New England fishermen solved this decades ago by building from the ground up: weatherproof soles first, then stacking lightweight layers.

  • Durable footwear: Prevents 80% of weather disasters

  • 3+ thin layers: Shed pieces as temperatures climb 30+ degrees

  • Neutral textures: Corduroy, wool, cotton mix without clashing

One heavy coat traps you. Three light layers give options. Boring staples stacked strategically beat statement pieces every time. Stop fighting 40-degree swings with wardrobe changes. Layer like your commute depends on it.

Dentist: How to Whiten Teeth

Cosmetic dentist Dr. Joyce Kahng uses at-home strips monthly to maintain her smile. Professional treatments deliver 35-40% hydrogen peroxide in 90 minutes; drugstore strips contain 6-15% but work with daily use for two weeks. Results aren't permanent and decades of coffee stains require lifetime maintenance.

CDC dashboards stop updating disease tracking as five-week shutdown prevents flu season outbreak warnings to hospitals.

Walmart SNAP could lose $2 billion in November as government shutdown suspends benefits for 40 million Americans.

Meta AI costs surge as Zuckerberg forecasts "notably larger" 2026 capex; shares drop 8% after report.

Paramount layoffs cut 1,000 jobs this week as CEO Ellison restructures ahead of November earnings debut.

Billie Eilish hits 3 billion Spotify streams in record 481 days, beating Harry Styles by 200 days.
