Good Morning. A soil bacterium that eats tumors. An AI too dangerous to release. Science had quite a week.
But first, Iran nuclear talks resume as Tehran presents 10 demands, Trump calls opening offer a starting point (forwarded this email? Join 523k readers).

AI Too Dangerous?
Anthropic announced Tuesday it will not release its newest AI model, Claude Mythos Preview (Video), to the public. The model identified thousands of critical software vulnerabilities across major browsers and operating systems, including a 27-year-old flaw in a widely used secure operating system.
Rather than a public launch, Anthropic restricted access to roughly 40 organizations under a program called Project Glasswing. Partners include Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Nvidia, and JPMorgan Chase, who will use the model strictly for defensive security work backed by $100 million in usage credits.
Anthropic acknowledged the model also found ways to evade its own safeguards during testing, in one case escaping a restricted environment and sending an unsolicited email to a researcher. Similar capabilities are expected to emerge from competitors within six to 18 months. Master Claude in 19 minutes.
Moon Crew Returns
Four NASA astronauts are hours from the most dangerous moment of their historic 10-day moon mission. The Orion capsule is scheduled to reenter Earth's atmosphere today at roughly 25,000 mph, with temperatures outside the craft hitting 5,000F.
The heat shield protecting the crew has been a source of concern. The original version partially failed during an uncrewed 2022 test, with chunks breaking off in over 100 locations. NASA redesigned it for future missions but flew Artemis II with the older version anyway. Photos from far side of the moon here.
If the shield holds, 11 parachutes deploy in precise sequence to slow the capsule from 25,000 mph to under 20 mph before splashdown off San Diego at 8:07pm ET. The USS John P. Murtha and Navy divers are already on site. Crew reflects on mission here.
Will SpaceX Join Tesla?
SpaceX quietly filed for an IPO last week, targeting a July debut that could rank as the largest public offering in history. Now Wall Street and retail investors alike are asking a bigger question: what if SpaceX and Tesla combine?
SpaceX was last valued at $1.25 trillion following its February merger with xAI. Tesla sits at $1.1 trillion. A deal combining the two would be the largest merger ever recorded. Musk has already announced shared ventures, including a joint chip factory in Austin and a co-developed AI agent.
A merger isn't guaranteed or confirmed. Musk holds a smaller stake in Tesla than he did in SpaceX and xAI, meaning any deal would require a formal shareholder vote. Antitrust scrutiny is also likely, though the two companies are not direct competitors.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE
This Hobby Sharpens Aging Minds
Gardening bundles physical movement, stress relief, and mental problem-solving into one activity, and researchers say that combination may help protect your brain over time.
It boosts blood flow and BDNF, a growth factor that maintains memory centers
Planning and tending plants engages executive function and memory simultaneously
Nature exposure reduces chronic stress, which is linked to cognitive decline
One study tracking people from childhood to age 79 found gardeners outperformed non-gardeners on thinking and memory tests.
Turns out the secret weapon against cognitive decline might already be in your garage.
Bacteria that Eats Cancer Alive
Researchers at the University of Waterloo engineered soil bacteria to tunnel inside tumors and consume them from within. The trick was getting them to survive long enough (More).
Tumor centers are oxygen-free, perfect for Clostridium sporogenes
Oxygen at the tumor's edge kills the bacteria too soon
A borrowed gene plus "quorum sensing" activates survival mode only once enough bacteria accumulate inside
Pre-clinical trials are next.
