Good morning. From Swift's historic album to Musk's AI empire and McConaughey's mental health advice—here's exactly what everyone's talking about today.
Correction: Deepfake got us on the Rory McIlroy clip on Friday. We fell for it (guess we're all vulnerable now.) Huge thanks to our readers for pointing it out. We try hard to report the truth and are always open to feedback.

Musk's Memphis Bet
Elon Musk's xAI is building massive AI data centers in Memphis, with the company's second facility ("Colossus 2") nearing completion. The project will house 550,000 Nvidia chips and cost tens of billions, requiring at least $18 billion for processors alone.
xAI raised $10 billion this year and was projected to spend $13 billion in 2025. The first Memphis facility, "Colossus," already operates over 200,000 chips powering Grok AI. SpaceX contributed $2 billion to the effort.
The expansion brings controversy, as data centers will consume massive electricity and water while creating only hundreds of jobs. Memphis residents debate pollution from gas turbines versus economic benefits.

ObamaCare Credits Deadline
Republicans refused to negotiate extending Affordable Care Act tax credits during shutdown talks, with Speaker Mike Johnson citing Dec. 31 expiration. But open enrollment starts Nov. 1, and premiums could double without credits.
Analysis shows 77 percent of enrollees (18.7 million) live in Trump-won states. A KFF survey found 78 percent of adults support extending credits, including 59 percent of Republicans. These states received more tax credits.
Senate Leader John Thune said Republicans can't guarantee votes for subsidies. Experts warn premium jumps will drive people from marketplace even if Congress acts before year-end. Government shutdown expected another week.

Swift Breaks Records
Taylor Swift's "The Life of a Showgirl" sold 2.7 million copies on its first day (Oct. 3) in the U.S.. This marks Swift's biggest sales week and the second-largest opening in the modern era.
Only Adele's "25" sold more in a week, with 3.378 million in 2015. "Showgirl" also broke vinyl records with 1.2 million copies sold, surpassing Swift's own 2024 record of 859,000.
Final first-week sales will be announced Oct. 12. If "Showgirl" debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200, it would be Swift's 15th chart-topper, moving her past Drake and JAY-Z. This weekend’s biggest movie was an album.

Why Jump Rope Fixes Your Feet
Jump rope forces your feet to work as they're designed—transforming from flexible adapters to rigid levers with every bounce.
The Foot Problem:
Flat feet lack spring function: Cannot transition from mobile adapter to rigid push-off lever
Poor landing patterns: Send forces up through ankle, knee, hip, and lower back
Heel strikes have zero cushioning: Landing on heels rattles your jaw—literally no shock absorption
Jump rope trains proper mechanics through repetition and immediate feedback. You learn ball-of-foot landing naturally because heel strikes make the rope impossible.
Bottom line: The foot's 26 bones must coordinate perfectly during landing and push-off. Three-minute jump rope rounds teach this better than any other exercise. Even pretending without a rope works—it's the movement pattern that matters.
How to Stop Overthinking
Actor Matthew McConaughey advises recording yourself when overthinking, then listening back to the ramblings. “If everything is significant, nothing is significant.” You'll realize you're assigning excessive significance to details that don't matter. “Calm your brain. Get some sleep. Have a drink. Relax.”
