Machado Meets Trump
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado met President Trump Thursday, presenting him her Nobel Peace Prize medal for his "commitment" to Venezuelan freedom. The meeting occurred less than two weeks after U.S. forces captured then-President Nicolás Maduro.
U.S. forces seized Maduro and his wife from their Caracas compound, bringing them to New York for drug trafficking charges (updates). Trump previously dismissed Machado's credibility to lead Venezuela. Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro's former vice president, now governs.
The Trump administration signaled willingness to work with Rodríguez despite her role in Maduro's government. The White House hasn't confirmed whether Trump accepted the medal, a prize he has long sought.
Lunar Hotel Plans
Startup GRU (Galactic Resource Utilization Space) plans to open a lunar resort by 2032, offering hotel rooms for $1 million deposits. Founder Skyler Chan, 22, aims to build using automated processes that transform lunar soil into durable structures.
Construction would begin in 2029 pending regulatory approval. The company secured funding from investors backing SpaceX and Anduril. GRU positions lunar tourism as humanity's fastest path to becoming interplanetary, calling it the first permanent off-Earth structure.
The project aligns with US space expansion goals under NASA administrator Jared Isaacman and President Trump. GRU released plans for broader Moon settlements beyond the hotel. The last human Moon visit occurred in 1972 during Apollo 17.

Senegal's Spear-Wielding Chimps
Primatologist Jill Pruetz has documented 25 years studying Senegal's Fongoli chimpanzees, rare savannah-dwelling apes whose behaviors offer evolutionary insights. The 35-member community in southeast Senegal represents the only long-term habituated savannah chimp population studied.
Female Fongoli chimps are the only non-humans systematically hunting with tools, fashioning spears to catch bush babies (observed nearly 600 times). The group adapts to temperatures reaching 49°C by soaking in pools and sheltering in caves (video).
The critically endangered West African chimps face threats from expanding gold mines. Their savannah habitat mirrors environments where human ancestors lived six to seven million years ago, potentially confirming hypotheses about early hominin behavior (secret culture of chimps, video).

The Hidden Cost of Inaction
Chris Williamson says his favorite piece of wisom is to "contemplate the price you pay for inaction." Every unmade decision sits in the back of your mind, consuming attention and fracturing your focus. You're not playing it safe by delaying, you're paying with your peace of mind. The "mañana, mañana" mindset has real consequences. Stop justifying the wait. Commit today and reclaim your attention.
