Vaccine Age Pushed
The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted 8-3 Thursday to delay recommending the MMRV vaccine (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella) until age 4. Children previously could receive the combined vaccination starting at 12 months old.
Committee members cited increased risk of febrile seizures in younger children as the primary concern. The seizures, while generally harmless, can be traumatic for families. Critics argued the change removes parental choice and could reduce vaccination compliance rates.
The controversial decision came amid heightened scrutiny of CDC leadership and new political appointees. The panel will vote Friday on COVID-19 and Hepatitis B vaccine guidance. Current vaccination age chart here.
BUSINESS
Starbucks Workers Sue
Starbucks workers filed class-action lawsuits Wednesday in Illinois and Colorado, alleging the company violated state laws by implementing a new dress code without reimbursing employees for expenses. Workers also filed complaints in California.
The May dress code requires solid black shirts under green aprons, specific pants colors, and waterproof shoes. Multiple plaintiffs requested reimbursement but were denied. State laws require employers to cover expenses that primarily benefit the company. Starbucks dress code here.
Starbucks provided two free shirts but didn't directly address the lawsuits. The company called the dress code part of its "Back to Starbucks" initiative to create a more welcoming customer experience.

PTA’s Timely Vision
Director Paul Thomas Anderson's new film "One Battle After Another" had its world premiere at TCL Chinese Theatre last week. The Warner Bros.-funded production stars Leonardo DiCaprio and features themes of immigration raids and radical activism (somewhat like Ari Aster’s Eddington).
The $140 million film runs 2 hours 40 minutes and took Anderson 20 years to develop. Based loosely on Thomas Pynchon's novel "Vineland," it features newcomer Chase Infiniti alongside Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor in supporting roles.
Critics are calling it potentially Anderson's masterpiece, noting its timely depiction of white supremacist groups and military immigration sweeps. Despite contemporary parallels, Anderson insists the themes are timeless, saying "neither does fascism go out of style." Watch the trailer here.
DiCaprio talks about “polarity” and “extremism” here.

Why HIIT Protects Your Brain More
Forget steady cardio for brain health. 2025 research reveals high-intensity interval training triggers more neuroprotective "myokines" than moderate exercise.
These muscle-derived molecules cross the blood-brain barrier and literally grow new brain cells. HIIT produces significantly higher levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and other protective compounds.
The sweet spot: Brief bursts of vigorous exercise followed by recovery periods. Your muscles manufacture hope molecules that rewire your brain in real-time, enhancing memory and preventing cognitive decline.
Most people exercise wrong for brain benefits.
The $70K Retirement Loophole
Standard 401k limit is $23,500, but there's a massive loophole. The Mega Backdoor Roth lets you contribute up to $70,000 annually ($77,500 if 50+) for completely tax-free growth.
Here's how: Make after-tax contributions to your 401k beyond the normal limit, then convert them to Roth. Total annual 401k contributions can reach $70,000 including employer matches and your after-tax dollars.
The catch? Your employer's 401k must allow after-tax contributions and conversions. Most people never ask HR about this feature.
