TOP STORY TODAY

Meta’s AI Age Check

Meta announced Tuesday it will use AI to scan photos and videos for visual cues like height and bone structure to flag users under 13 on Facebook and Instagram. The company stressed this is not facial recognition.

The system pairs visual analysis with text and behavior signals such as birthday posts or school grade mentions. Flagged accounts are deactivated, and users must complete age verification to avoid permanent deletion. The tool is live in select countries.

The rollout follows a March ruling in which a New Mexico jury ordered Meta to pay $375 million for misleading users about child safety. Meta is expanding teen account protections to 27 countries. These countries have banned social for kids.

Beer Bounces Back

Anheuser-Busch InBev reported yesterday that drink volumes rose last quarter for the first time in three years, beating analyst forecasts. Revenue climbed 12%, with the Brazil unit notching record sales growth and shares jumping the most in nearly 27 years.

Latin America drove the beat. AB InBev overtook Heineken in Mexico, and non-alcohol beverage revenue surged 27%. North American beer sales continued sliding, however, as inflation and health-conscious consumers kept US shoppers out of the alcohol aisle.

Carlsberg and Heineken also returned to volume growth last quarter. AB InBev expects to outpace both rivals this year, citing a summertime sales boost tied to World Cup festivities. How AB InBev Stopped Its Three-Year Slide.

Affordable Harley Davidson

Harley-Davidson will revive its discontinued Sportster motorcycle next year at roughly $10,000 (photos), new CEO Artie Starrs announced this week. The entry-level bike, pulled in 2022 over European emissions rules, has cleared those hurdles (WSJ).

The move marks a sharp pivot from predecessor Jochen Zeitz, who chased margins on $50,000-plus touring bikes. Retail sales have slid since their 2006 peak, and shares dipped to $17 in March before partially rebounding.

A second budget model, the $6,000 Sprint with a 440cc engine, hits dealers later this year. Harley aims to sell 135,000 bikes in 2026, which would end a five-year sales decline.

The Peloton of Infrared Saunas

Peak Saunas + Peak Wellness Club

Most home saunas get used three times, then collect dust. Peak Saunas fixed that. Their full-spectrum infrared saunas come with Peak Wellness Club, a guided platform free for life. Active members average 4.2 sessions per week vs. 1.8 for non-members.

The science backs it up. Research from Laukkanen et al. found 4-7 sessions per week are linked to a 63% reduction in cardiovascular mortality risk. Every Peak sauna includes medical-grade red light therapy (competitors charge $500-$1,800 extra), near-zero EMF, and a lifetime warranty.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE

Bryan Johnson: 5 Habits to Fix Terrible Posture

Bryan Johnson found his ticking time bomb: internal jugular vein stenosis. Years of slouching had compressed the veins draining blood from his brain. Headaches. Brain fog. Stroke risk. Bad posture did that.

Talk to your doctor first, but here’s his step-by-step fix:

  1. Invisible string: Imagine one pulled through your spine. Head straight up.

  2. Phone up: Eye level, never your lap. Awkward. Necessary.

  3. Move every 5 minutes: Lunges. Stretches. Arms up. Reset the body.

  4. Shoulder pulls: Elbows back. Shoulders up and out. Pull with shoulders, not wrists.

  5. Forehead pressure: Hands on forehead, light pressure. Head up slightly. No clenching.

5 Habits to Stay Sharp in the AI Era

Most people aren't using AI for "open-minded collaboration." They're using it to offload thinking.

A 2024 MIT Media Lab study found ChatGPT users showed the lowest brain connectivity of any group tested. Teachers called their essays "soulless." By essay three, most just told the bot to do it all.

Critical thinking is a wellness practice. Use it or lose it. How to protect it:

  1. Owl on the shoulder: AI sits with you, not in your seat. You decide which tasks to automate and which need your brain.

  2. Keep learning: Read, write, take courses, play chess. Mind weakens like a muscle.

  3. Stay open: Contemplate multiple perspectives. Question your biases. Listen actively.

  4. Sit in the discomfort: Make hard decisions yourself. Defend them. Like a sauna or a long run.

  5. Cold Turkey app: Block AI sites for hours. Take the divorce.
