TOP STORY TODAY
Tim Cook Steps Down
Tim Cook announced yesterday he will step down as Apple CEO on August 31, handing the role to John Ternus, 50, the company's hardware engineering chief. Cook will shift to executive chairman, staying involved in policy and global government relations (15 years of Tim Cook).
Ternus has spent 25 years at Apple, overseeing the transition from Intel chips to Apple Silicon in 2020, a move that sent Mac sales soaring. He later led the iPhone Air launch (video) and is guiding a foldable device expected this fall. He has limited AI experience, which analysts note as a key challenge ahead.
Apple's App Store AI revenue is on pace to surpass $1 billion this year, fueled by subscription fees from AI companies paying to reach the company's 2.5 billion active devices. That runway gives Ternus time to develop Apple's own AI strategy before the pressure becomes critical.
Naval Standoff Escalates
The US Navy disabled and boarded an Iranian cargo ship, the MV Touska, in the Gulf of Oman on Sunday after the vessel ignored six hours of warnings to halt. Marines rappelled from helicopters launched off the USS Tripoli to take custody of the 965-foot ship (WSJ).
The Touska has been under US sanctions since 2018 and is linked to Iran's state shipping network. Shipping analysts tracked it visiting a southern Chinese port twice in the six weeks before the seizure, and sister ships in the same fleet have previously been tied to transporting missile fuel components.
Iran vowed retaliation and called the operation piracy, while China expressed concern the incident could derail ceasefire talks. The seizure comes as negotiators from both sides are expected in Pakistan this week for a fresh round of peace discussions over the Strait of Hormuz conflict.
New British Roadster
British startup Longbow has unveiled an all-electric open-top sports car called the Speedster, priced at £84,995 and limited to 150 units. Most are already sold. A more accessible Roadster model, priced at £64,995, follows in 2027 with a roof and similar 280-mile range.
Founded by veterans from McLaren, Lucid, and Tesla, Longbow built the production-ready Speedster in roughly six months. The car weighs just 895 kilograms, lighter than a Mazda MX-5, and hits 60 mph in around 3.3 seconds. Everything is designed, engineered, and hand-assembled in the UK.
The company plans to produce 5,000 Roadsters annually using an almost entirely British supply chain. Batteries remain the one foreign-sourced component for now, with the firm committing to domestic sourcing once UK-based manufacturing becomes available. World’s lightest EV speedster (video).

The Stoic Secret to Killing Anxiety
Anxiety isn't happening to you. According to Stoic philosophy, it's something you're actively doing to yourself. Control the controllable, release everything else completely, and morning journaling becomes a Stoic ritual, not a productivity hack. The harder part: desire and love break every rule Stoicism sets. That tension is worth sitting with. The Stoics weren't trying to feel nothing. They were trying to feel the right things.
