Bill Gates published a 6,000-word essay yesterday arguing that artificial intelligence will cause mass job losses, and that the industry is downplaying the risk because too much money is at stake.

He proposes Human Reserved jobs, roles kept for people even when machines could do them. He points to the caregivers who knew when his father was hungry even when he could not say so (which jobs should be human reserved?).

He also wants a tax on AI use, noting that employers pay payroll taxes when they hire someone but can usually write off a machine immediately. The system currently favors the machine.

The move: when pricing a tool against a hire, count the payroll tax. The gap is real.

Meta will pay up to $16.7 billion to settle claims by 29 states that it designed Facebook and Instagram to hook children. A federal judge approved the deal Wednesday. The company denied wrongdoing.

Teen accounts get capped at two hours a day across Meta apps and blocked entirely from midnight to 6 a.m., unless a parent overrides it. Beauty filters and visible like counts go away.

A Chinese SUV that looks like a Range Rover became Britain's best-selling car this year, the first Chinese model ever to top the UK charts. It starts around £29,000 (under $40,000), about half a Velar.

Buyers call it the Temu Range Rover. It carries a seven-year warranty, leases for under £300 a month (about $400/month), and 85% of its March sales were the plug-in hybrid version, which runs 56 electric miles.

Reviewers criticized the steering and suspension. It topped the sales charts anyway. Chinese brands now hold about 8% of the European market, and the maker of this one has a joint venture with Land Rover's owner. The company's own numbers.

The answer: people buy four things and only four. Time, money, sex, and peace of mind. Sell anything outside those and you fail.

Researchers at the University of Tsukuba had 24 adults do two things on separate days: sit for ten minutes, and run for ten minutes as slowly as they possibly could.

The pace was slow enough to walk. Heart rate hovered around 105. Sitting changed nothing. After the slow run, people scored better on a focus test, reported better moods, and showed more activity in the prefrontal cortex.

The catch is that it has to be running. Both feet leave the ground, and your skull moves up and down with each step. That vertical bounce is nearly absent in walking and cycling, and it tracked with how much moods improved.
