Good Morning. The Macy's fireworks torched the Brooklyn Bridge, a "dying" Tesla battery hit 247,000 miles, and an $8 billion firm's co-founder broke his own office mandate.

TOP STORY TODAY
Brooklyn Bridge Burns
The Brooklyn Bridge briefly caught fire Saturday night during New York City's Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show (NYT). Flames broke out just after 9 pm, with the first emergency call logged at 9:32 pm.
Fire officials confirmed Sunday the blaze was ignited by the fireworks themselves. Flames erupted from at least four spots along the walkway where shells were being launched, and two engines plus a water truck knocked it down (video).
The fire was out shortly after 10 pm with zero injuries reported. The 143-year-old bridge stayed closed to cars and pedestrians past midnight, stranding holiday crowds hoping to walk across.
EV Batteries Endure
New data released this week shows modern EV batteries are lasting far longer than the auto industry predicted, with one owner's five-year-old Tesla Model 3 still making 260-mile trips after 247,000 miles.
The numbers are stark: roughly 1 in 12 EVs built from 2011 to 2016 needed battery replacements, but just 0.3% of models built since 2022 have. The average five-year-old EV retains up to 95% of its original range.
Replacement fear remains the top reason buyers avoid EVs, with out-of-warranty swaps running $5,000 to $16,000. One catch: frequent fast charging degrades range twice as fast as slower charging.
Fired by Himself?
The co-founder of $8 billion asset manager Bramshill Investments was fired in 2022 for violating the return-to-office policy he personally signed, and he's now suing for at least $30 million (WSJ).
William Nieporte co-signed the five-day mandate ordering staff back, then ignored it, arguing owners were exempt. His two partners, high school classmates from New Jersey, used the violation to terminate him and force the sale of his 12% stake.
His nearest office sat hundreds of miles from his California home. The suit targets ADP, the HR provider that issued his termination letter, while arbitration with his ex-partners continues.

Modern dads are set up to fail
We just celebrated the Fourth, right on the heels of Father's Day, and it got us thinking about the job. In the 1950s it was simple: provide. Now you are expected to do all of it, and researchers literally call these impossible standards. So stop trying to hit them.
Most of that noise never reaches your kids. Here is what actually shapes them, the six things they will remember:
Show up. Ten phone-free minutes beats an hour half-there.
Turn toward them. "Watch this" is an invitation, not an interruption.
Build rituals. One repeated thing, guarded fiercely.
Model it. They copy what you do, not what you say.
Words that land. Say the love out loud.
Let them struggle. Raise a capable adult, not a comfortable kid.
The guide backs each with research and true stories, like the Griffeys going back-to-back at the plate, and Roosevelt making his cabinet wait to finish a pillow fight with his boys.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 4 Rules for Life
Before the Mr. Universe titles, the box office, and the governor's office, Arnold Schwarzenegger ran the same playbook. Four rules he still swears by:
Get a clear vision. The best plane with the best pilot still crashes if it has nowhere to land. Pick the destination first.
Write it down, cross it off. He logged every rep and marked it done. That line through the page turns discipline into momentum.
See it before you live it. He pictured the stage for years, so the work was just following through on a win he had already imagined.
Stop calling it discipline. With a clear enough vision, you do not force the 7am gym. You look forward to it.
Skip to 9:02: the rule Arnold insists matters most, the one that makes him refuse to call himself self-made.
