Canada’s Next Move
Ontario's premier said yesterday that halting electricity exports and critical mineral shipments to the United States is on the table, days after Canada left trade talks and Washington imposed 50% tariffs.
Ontario power reaches about 1.5 million homes and businesses in Michigan, Minnesota, and New York through three grid connections. The province tried a 25% export surcharge in March 2025 and pulled it back almost immediately.
New York drew under 5% of its electricity from Canada in 2023, with Michigan and Minnesota lower, so a full cutoff would reach a thin slice of three states' supply. Ontario's own export numbers by state.

Amazon’s RoboTaxi
Amazon's Zoox is expanding its driverless fleet in San Francisco, moving further into territory Waymo already dominates. The company began charging fares in Las Vegas on August 10, its first commercial operation.
Zoox vehicles have no steering wheel, no pedals, and two rows of seats facing each other. A federal exemption granted in July allows up to 2,500 of them annually for two years.
Rides remain free in San Francisco, Austin, and Miami while Zoox waits on state permits to charge, and in California the company still needs two more approvals before fares can begin.

Two heirs to the Jack Daniel's fortune sent a seven-page letter to more than 130 relatives in July, accusing the board of rewarding poor performance as a $15 billion takeover offer stays on the table.

The $75,000 “Happiness Number” was Never Real
For a decade the line was that happiness rises with income and then stops at $75,000. That number was never measured. It was the midpoint of a survey bracket.
When the two researchers on opposite sides pooled their raw data in 2023, they found no ceiling for most people. Happiness kept climbing.
