Good morning. A Special Forces sergeant helped plan a classified raid, then bet on the outcome. He made 12x his money. We break down how he got caught.
We also cover Chinese battlefield satellites, the NFL's top draft pick, and standing press gains (forwarded this email? Join 523k readers).
TOP STORY TODAY
Chinese Satellites Over Battlefield
Since U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes against Iran in late February, Chinese satellite imagery of the conflict zone has spread widely online, raising Pentagon concerns that adversaries may be using the data for battlefield targeting (WSJ).
Chinese AI firm MizarVision published annotated, near-real-time imagery of U.S. carriers, F-22s, and B-52 bombers on social media throughout the operation. Several of the military assets and facilities it documented were subsequently targeted by Iranian missile and drone strikes. A congressional letter flagged the possibility that MizarVision may have sourced imagery from European satellite provider Airbus, which denied the claims.
China now operates more than 640 commercial remote-sensing satellites, adding over 120 last year alone. U.S. operators, meanwhile, have indefinitely restricted public imagery of the conflict zone at the government's request, leaving a lopsided intelligence picture that benefits parties without similar restrictions. Here’s how AI is compressing the intelligence cycle to near-real-time targeting for adversaries
Polymarket Soldier Charged
A U.S. Army Special Forces master sergeant was arrested yesterday for allegedly using classified military intelligence to place winning bets on Polymarket, netting over $409,000 from roughly $33,000 wagered.
Gannon Ken Van Dyke, 38, was part of the team that planned Operation Absolute Resolve, the January raid that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in Caracas. He opened a Polymarket account in late December and placed 13 bets in the days before the operation, all predicting Maduro's removal.
The case marks the first time the Commodity Futures Trading Commission invoked the so-called "Eddie Murphy Rule," a 2010 Dodd-Frank provision making it illegal to trade on misappropriated government information. Van Dyke faces up to 20 years on wire fraud charges alone. How they flagged these bets, here.
Raiders #1 Draft Pick
The Las Vegas Raiders selected Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft Thursday night, making him the 30th quarterback taken No. 1 in the common draft era (Video).
Mendoza won the 2025 Heisman Trophy after transferring from California to Indiana, where he led the Hoosiers to a 16-0 record and their first-ever national championship. He posted 3,535 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and a 72% completion rate in his only season there (highlight reel here).
The pick was widely expected after Las Vegas finished 3-14 in 2025 under Pete Carroll, who was subsequently fired. Mendoza will compete with 15-year veteran Kirk Cousins for the starting job, though the team's general manager said the best player will play.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE
Ditch the Seat for Bigger Gains
The seated overhead press feels safer. That's exactly why it's holding you back. Standing press isn't a shoulder exercise. It's a full-body diagnostic. Your core fires. Your thoracic spine opens up. Your back gets stronger by being forced to stabilize weight overhead the way it was designed to.
If seated pressing hurts your back, that's not an injury warning. That's your body asking for the stability work you've been skipping. Start light. Lock out strong. The gains you've been missing were standing up the whole time.
Prepare Like Christopher Nolan
Forget the tools. Christopher Nolan builds blockbusters with deliberate limitations, and his process translates directly to any creative work.
Write one paragraph defining your project's heart before anything else.
Write your first draft by hand. No undo button means real commitment.
Ask what your project lacks rather than what it includes.
Restrictions aren't obstacles. They're the engine.
