TOP STORY TODAY

Where’s Venezuela's Oil Billions?

The US has collected more than $13 billion from Venezuelan oil sales since seizing control of the country's exports in January, and lawmakers from both parties are now pressing the administration to explain where the money went.

The paper trail is thin. A tracking website Venezuela created shows a single transfer of $300 million in March. A State Department official said in April that roughly $3 billion had been sent back, with quarterly reports promised. None have arrived.

The stakes jumped after June's earthquakes, which the UN estimates caused $37 billion in damage. Venezuela's first-quarter growth of 2.5% was its lowest in nearly five years, despite sharply higher oil revenues.

Dr. ChatGPT

OpenAI yesterday rolled out ChatGPT Health to all US users over 18, across every plan including free tiers, on web and iOS. Users now ask 300 million health questions weekly, up from 230 million in January.

The feature connects Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and full medical records from hospital systems like Epic and Oracle Health. During testing, 70% of health queries happened outside the dedicated hub, so connected data now informs any chat.

The timing raised eyebrows. A Florida pastor sued OpenAI one day earlier, claiming a near-fatal suggestion to skip the doctor. The company's own terms still state the service isn't intended for diagnosis or treatment.

Bear Burglars

A bear named Judy broke into a South Lake Tahoe couple's living room last month, urinated on the floor, and sniffed their toothpaste before leaving. Local police have logged 174 bear calls this year, nearly double 2025's pace.

California's black bear population has tripled since the 1990s to roughly 60,000. Bears addicted to human food now raid dumpsters, trucks, and homes, and state wildlife officials warn the habit makes them increasingly aggressive (Photos).

The human response is its own circus. Rival volunteer groups patrol the same streets while feuding over whether to share bear locations with the state. One founder installs porch mats carrying a nonlethal 10,000-volt charge. What to do if you encounter a black bear.

The 90-Minute Rule for Living Longer

Researchers just found the strength training sweet spot, and it's smaller than you think.

A study tracking more than 147,000 people over 30 years found that 90 to 120 minutes of lifting per week was linked to the biggest drop in overall death risk. That's three 35-minute sessions. Not two-a-days, not marathon gym blocks.

More wasn't better. The benefits plateaued past the two-hour mark, which means the guy grinding 10 hours a week is buying almost nothing extra.

If you own a few dumbbells and 90 minutes, you own the whole benefit.

A 3-Ingredient Cocktail Worth Mastering

A Brooklyn bar owner just gave away the drink he makes when nobody's watching. It's called the Little Root, and it's an Old Fashioned with one swap that changes everything.

The recipe:

  • 2 ounces of bourbon (Wild Turkey 101 works)

  • 1 ounce of Cynar

  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

Stir over ice in a rocks glass. Done in 45 seconds.

Cynar is a $25 Italian artichoke liqueur that replaces sugar and adds depth most home bartenders spend years chasing. No juicing, no syrup, no measuring required after the first pour.
