Fauci Pleads Fifth

Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 100 times yesterday at a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing. Senator Rand Paul subpoenaed him to testify. Fauci received a preemptive federal pardon in 2025.

Republicans accuse Fauci of lying in earlier testimony about the virus's origins and research funding, which he denies. Paul released more than 1,000 pages of Fauci's pandemic diaries ahead of the hearing. Here is what they tell us.

The committee votes next week on holding him in contempt. Paul argues the pardon weakens the Fifth Amendment claim. More than 150 infectious disease researchers signed a letter defending Fauci beforehand.

LIV Golf Runs Dry

LIV Golf is canceling its season-ending team championship, scheduled for late August outside Detroit with $40 million in prize money. It was the league's signature event and the second canceled this year (WSJ).

Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund poured more than $5 billion into LIV since 2022, then said in April it would stop funding after this season. The league burned roughly $100 million a month. What events are left for 2026?

Executives are seeking up to $350 million to survive into 2027, with a deal deadline around September 1. The Asian Tour, which LIV built with $300 million, just partnered with the PGA Tour instead. LIV’s star golfers are in limbo.

22-Hour Non-Stop Flight

An Airbus A350-1000ULR landed in Toulouse Tuesday after flying 12,460 nautical miles nonstop from Melbourne in 24 hours and 24 minutes. No passengers aboard, just test crew and engineers (NYT).

It beat a 2005 Boeing record by nearly two hours. An extra rear fuel tank adds 5,300 gallons and roughly 900 nautical miles of range. About 3.6 million people tracked it live online.

Qantas plans daily Sydney to London service starting October 2027, about 22 hours in the air. Cabins carry 238 seats, fewer than normal, plus a stretch zone. Breakfast will include caffeine or chili. Photos.

TOGETHER WITH MOLDCO

Your annual physical runs about 30 lab values. Not one of them looks for mold.

Mold doesn't hit once and leave. Breathe it in long enough and your immune system can stay switched on for months after the exposure. That's what turns into the 2pm crash, the brain fog, the headaches, and the sessions that feel heavier than your training says they should.

A CBC, a metabolic panel and lipids won't catch any of it. So it gets filed under stress, and you keep optimizing around a variable nobody measured. Half of US homes show signs of mold or water damage, and about 24% of people carry a genetic type that makes it hard for the body to clear mold toxins.

You can be doing everything right and still be having symptoms, and carrying a toxin load you've never tested for. MoldCo's Starter Panel measures three key markers linked to mold toxicity, for $56 at a Labcorp near you. Either they come back elevated and you finally have a direction, or they come back where they should be and that's one less invisible variable between you and your ceiling.

Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Workout for Spider-Man 4

Bernthal is back as the Punisher this weekend. Here is what the prep looked like the first time.

  • Up at 4am. Three separate sessions, every day.

  • Lift. Five sets of three at max weight on squat or bench, then supersets and bodybuilding volume.

  • Metcon. Five or six full body moves, pull-ups and cleans, as many rounds as possible for about 20 minutes.

  • Fight. Boxing or jiu jitsu between scenes, plus fight choreography and weapons work on top.

  • Food was lean meat and vegetables and nothing else. He said he did not want to escape the character through a big meal.

  • For the first few weeks he also rucked the Brooklyn Bridge all night in a 60-pound pack.

The Jet Lag Protocol Built for a 22-Hour Flight

Qantas flies nonstop Sydney to London starting next year, up to 22 hours in the air. To keep passengers functional, the airline spent years testing with scientists at the University of Sydney. Tests showed less severe jet lag and better cognitive performance for two days after landing.

What you can steal on any flight:

  • Eat for the clock. Caffeine or chili at your destination's breakfast time. Nothing heavy when you want to sleep.

  • Get bright light when you want to be awake. Shade up, cabin lights on.

  • Move every couple of hours instead of sitting the whole leg.

Your Running Shoes Have 600 Miles On Them

You cannot remember when you bought them. That is the tell. Running shoes are finished somewhere between 300 and 500 miles, and the pair in your garage crossed that line in a season you can no longer name.

They still look fine. That is the problem. The foam is flat, your legs absorb what the shoe used to, and you quietly decide you are just getting older.

Skechers built the AERO series as four shoes for four jobs. Razor for speed work. Tempo for progression runs. Spark for daily miles. Burst for the long ones. Burst and Spark also come as Slip-ins, no laces, which is the pair that survives a carry-on.
