The Federal Aviation Administration ordered a 10% traffic reduction at 40 major airports starting Friday. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the measure as air-traffic controllers work without pay during the government shutdown that began October 1.

The shutdown has caused staffing shortages, leading to delayed and canceled flights. Cirium estimates the reductions could affect approximately 1,800 flights Friday. More than 3.4 million passengers have experienced delays and cancellations related to staffing issues.
