Phone apps have become an intelligence battlefield. A Spanish NATO commander's relationship with a Russian-born woman he met on Tinder raised alarms, and both Russia and Ukraine have run fake dating profiles to recruit saboteurs.

A French Navy officer logged a run on his aircraft carrier's deck, and his public Strava profile showed circles drawn across the middle of the Mediterranean. Another app let researchers find a service member's children's elementary school.

Apps sell location data to brokers who resell it. Duke researchers bought records for as little as 10 cents each and identified military members by name and home address. Strava accounts are public by default.

Bob Chapek, fired as Disney's CEO in 2022 after less than three years, blames his predecessor and successor in a memoir out Tuesday (book link). He says his dismissal cost him his reputation and that he did nothing wrong.

Chapek accuses Bob Iger of privately disparaging him to Hollywood power brokers and Disney insiders, calling it an intentional campaign to end his run. He uses the word "disrupt" about 30 times across 254 pages (NYT).

He offers no apology for the theme park price increases readers felt, defending dynamic pricing and pointing to 18% compound annual profit growth during his run as parks chairman. A representative for Iger declined to comment. The Lakers deal Iger made instead.

Andreessen Horowitz launched a one-year school in San Francisco this week as an alternative to college, with applications open now for about 50 students starting September 2027. The first class pays no tuition.

That was the culprit. Gloves shed stearates, a soap-like salt that looks and reads like plastic on lab instruments. Across seven glove types, about 2,000 false positives per square millimeter of contact. Cleanroom gloves cut that to roughly 100.

The credit card figure was shaky before this. It traces to a WWF-commissioned review of small studies, and other estimates put real intake millions of times lower.
