TOP STORY TODAY

March Madness Begins

The 2026 NCAA Tournament opened Tuesday in Dayton with both First Four games going down to the wire. No. 16 seed Howard defeated UMBC 86-83, earning the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory in five appearances. Texas followed with a 68-66 win over NC State on a last-second Tramon Mark jumper (finale 2 minutes).

Three Howard starters scored over 16 points in the win, and UMBC missed a buzzer three that would have forced overtime. Texas overcame an eight-point collapse in the final two minutes, surviving after Mark hit back-to-back clutch jumpers to close it out.

Tonight’s First Four action continues with Prairie View A&M vs. Lehigh and Miami (Ohio) vs. SMU, both in Dayton. The main bracket's first round tips off Thursday across CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV, with 32 games scheduled Thursday and Friday.

Russia Arms Iran

Russia has been sharing satellite imagery and modified drone technology with Iran to improve targeting of U.S. and allied military forces in the Middle East, according to European intelligence. The assistance includes upgraded Shahed drone (video) components plus tactical guidance drawn from Russia's experience in Ukraine.

The intelligence reportedly helped Iran strike U.S. radar systems in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman. Iran's recent strike patterns, using drones to overwhelm radar before missile attacks, now closely resemble Russian battlefield tactics.

The White House acknowledged the cooperation but disputed its impact, saying U.S. forces have struck over 7,000 targets while Iranian drone and missile attacks have dropped by 90 to 95 percent. The Kremlin denied providing targeting intelligence.

Sharks Have Friends?

A six-year study of 184 bull sharks at Fiji's Shark Reef Marine Reserve found the species demonstrates clear social preferences, challenging the long-held view of sharks as solitary predators. Researchers tracked associations, lead-follow behavior, and parallel swimming across juvenile, adult, and older adult animals.

Adults formed the core of social networks, most often bonding with similarly-sized partners. Both sexes preferred female companions, though males maintained more connections overall. Younger sharks socialized less, likely to avoid predation from larger adults.

Researchers conducted dives five times weekly over six years to gather observations. Lead author Natasha Marosi noted that significant questions remain, including whether bull sharks hunt cooperatively, how they select mates, and how courtship behaviors work. Wild shark recognizes human friend.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE

How to Bounce Back After Bad Sleep

According to neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, the best response to a rough night isn't sleeping in or reaching for coffee. The real goal is protecting the next night's sleep.

  • Wake at your normal time. Sleeping more than an hour past your usual alarm delays your circadian rhythm, making the next night harder.

  • Get sunlight within minutes of waking.

  • Hold off on caffeine for 90 to 120 minutes after rising to maximize its effect.

  • Exercise in the morning to trigger an early cortisol peak.

  • If afternoon fatigue hits, skip the coffee and take a short nap or 10 to 30 minute NSDR session instead.

Dune Part 3 — Official Trailer

Warner Bros. dropped the first Dune: Part Three trailer yesterday. The film picks up 17 years after Part Two, with Villeneuve describing it as darker and more action-packed. Robert Pattinson and Anya Taylor-Joy join the cast. It opens December 18.
