TOP STORY TODAY

Spirit Bailout Talks

The Trump administration is nearing a deal to support Spirit Airlines, with discussions this week focused on a potential federal loan of up to $500 million as the discount carrier struggles to stay solvent.

Officials from the Commerce and Transportation departments are involved, with the government expected to receive warrants for a potential equity stake. Spirit has faced mounting pressure from rising jet fuel costs, grounded aircraft, and a weakened low-cost business model.

The proposal would mark a rare targeted intervention for a single airline, following broader industry aid after past crises. Talks remain fluid, but a deal could shape how Washington approaches strategic investments in struggling companies going forward.

Lululemon Hires Nike Vet

Lululemon Athletica named former Nike executive Heidi O’Neill as its next chief executive, with a start date of Sept. 8, the company said Wednesday after a months-long search to replace outgoing CEO Calvin McDonald (WSJ).

O’Neill spent more than 20 years at Nike, most recently overseeing consumer, product, and brand operations. She is expected to refocus Lululemon’s U.S. business, where sales fell 4% last quarter even as total revenue rose 1% to $3.6 billion.

The leadership change comes amid investor pressure and declining valuation, with the company’s market cap dropping from $67 billion in 2023 to under $20 billion. O’Neill will guide product updates, store redesigns, and broader efforts to regain momentum.

Scarface Estate Sale

A 2.38-acre waterfront estate on Florida’s Key Biscayne tied to the 1983 film Scarface has been listed for $237 million, potentially setting a new record for Miami-Dade County if sold at asking price.

The property includes a roughly 20,000 square foot home and a helipad built during Richard Nixon’s presidency, when the site formed part of a Winter White House compound. The platform now doubles as a marina capable of handling large vessels.

Owner John Devaney purchased the estate for $15 million in 2003 and later expanded it with adjacent land. A successful sale would surpass the current county record of $170 million set earlier this year, signaling continued strength in ultra luxury real estate. See photos here.

TODAY’S LIFE ADVICE

Not All Data Deserves Equal Attention

Golfer Matt Fitzpatrick* tracks everything in golf practice — except when he doesn't. The lesson isn't discipline. It's hierarchy.

Checks closely:

  • Carry distances vs. expected baseline

  • Yardage gaps between clubs (he runs 12-13 yards)

  • Club speed as a fatigue/swing warning signal

Glances at, then moves on:

  • Spin rate — confirms it's in range, doesn't chase it

Most people drown in metrics they never act on. Pick 3-4 that move the needle. Ignore the rest unless something breaks.

She explains that much of what we accept as inevitable decline is actually self-fulfilling prophecy driven by mindless acceptance of cultural expectations. The conversation explores placebo effects, the power of noticing variability, and how living mindfully — embracing uncertainty rather than fearing it — can transform health outcomes and quality of life.
