Steroid Olympics
The inaugural Enhanced Games kick off yesterday in Las Vegas, pitting 42 athletes across swimming, weightlifting, and the 100-meter sprint. Unlike the Olympics, competitors may use performance-enhancing drugs, with $1 million bonuses for any world record.
Backers include tech billionaire Peter Thiel and a fund partnered with Donald Trump Jr. In March, the event launched a platform selling hormone therapy, peptides, and weight-loss drugs. The global pharmaceutical industry generates roughly $1.7 trillion annually.
Organizers say athletes face stricter medical monitoring than at the Olympics and stress that banned substances are optional. A co-founder predicts enhancement will become a decade-long mega-trend.
China’s Rolls-Royce
Huawei and JAC Motors have sold more than 17,000 Maextro S800 sedans in China since launching the luxury EV a year ago. The 18-foot car mimics Rolls-Royce styling but runs entirely on Huawei smartphone-derived software (Video).
Fully loaded, the Maextro costs roughly $173,000, while a stripped version starts near $104,000. That undercuts a Mercedes-Maybach by half and a base Rolls-Royce by 75%. The car parks itself, packs a 40-inch screen, and includes around 40 speakers.
Huawei plans an ultra-premium model priced close to $300,000 as soon as June. China exported over seven million vehicles last year, up from roughly one million in 2020.
